Pavement: “Frontwards” Covers

I just discovered that Los Campesinos’ song “Frontwards” is actually a cover.

Pavement did the original “Frontwards”:

Los Campesinos succeeds in striking the balance between maintaining the original version’s catchiness while also stamping their unique sound onto it.

Appendix Out also covered “Frontwards,” offering an acoustic, more mellow take on the song:

“Paid to Smile” Cover

Here’s a really good cover of The Lemonheads’ song “Paid to Smile” by a guy named Jeremy Sparrow.

I wouldn’t say that it’s better than the original, but it does offer more layered and textured guitar work than the original. This cover also lacks Juliana Hatfield’s backing vocals, which are a bit too shrill in the original song.

“Forever Young” Versions

“Forever Young,” originally by the band Alphaville, has been covered many times.

Original “Forever Young”:

Brandi Carlile’s slow, piano-driven, melancholy version:

Rooney’s upbeat, California-tinged version:

One Direction’s British boyband version:

Youth Group’s nostalgic, mid-tempo version:

Don’t bother listening to: Bad Influence’s metal version and Jay-Z’s rap version.
