The Primitives / Belle & Sebastian

Continuing the theme of disappointing covers, Belle & Sebastian did a cover of “Crash” by The Primitives that leaves me wanting to only listen to the original.

The cover is low energy, the use of piano is unappealing, and his vocals are irritating — the way he pronounces the words crash and fast is odd.

The Primitives:

Donna Lewis / Jukebox The Ghost

Have you heard Jukebox The Ghost’s cover of “I Love You Always Forever”?

The vocals sound weak, whiny, and tinny compared to Donna Lewis’s in the original version.

This seemingly impromptu cover by Pillowcase (below) is a lot better than Jukebox The Ghost’s — it captures the spirit of the original song better: the sense of movement, the momentum that builds, and the soaring chorus.
