So many songs reference other songs, bands, or albums. Other songs are about music itself.
Here are some good “meta songs” off the top of my head…what other ‘songs about songs’ do you know and like?

Rock Band 3 has a great line-up of songs, including “Portions for Foxes” by Rilo Kiley (!!!), “Just Like Heaven” by The Cure, and “Combat Baby” by Metric.
Other songs on Rock Band 3 are by artists like The White Stripes, Phoenix, Ida Maria, Smashmouth, Joan Jett, Ozzy Osbourne, Queen, and The Doors.

On Thursday August 5th, three bands played a free show in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park for the Celebrate Brooklyn Festival.
Holly Miranda, Joan as Policewoman, and Metric took the stage — Holly Miranda and Metric were definitely the best bands of the evening.
Highlights were Holly Miranda playing “Waves” and “I’d Rather Go Blind,” with Kaki King joining in on guitar, and Metric playing an acoustic version of “Combat Baby” as the last song of the encore.
